What is Screen Time?
Screen Time is a web-based dashboard that tracks student engagement with digital learning tools on school-managed devices. By capturing student browser engagement during in-school and out-of-school time, Screen Time helps administrators, principals, and other stakeholders make evidence-based decisions regarding the impacts of educational platforms on licensing and curriculum effectiveness.
What devices does Screen Time support?
Screen Time supports school-managed Chromebooks and Windows devices through Chrome and Edge.
How frequently does Screen Time refresh data?
Data syncs daily. Check the Last Synced timestamp in the top-right corner of the dashboard for data freshness.
Who can view Screen Time data?
The Screen Time dashboard is only available to district and school administrators, principals, and nominated staff. To share Screen Time insights with families, school leaders can export reports in PDF or CSV formats.
Can administrators set screen time limits or block alerts directly within this feature?
Screen Time’s initial release covers usage analytics, instructional vs. non-instructional activity, and reporting. Administrators still configure filtering rules and policies, time limits, and real-time alerts in Filter. Expanded restriction controls are planned for future updates.

Can districts reclassify default instructional application categories?
Applications currently map to the default system classifications maintained by EdTech Manager. Customizable app tagging and district-specific reclassification controls are currently under evaluation for future release.
Why is a student or cohort showing zero or unexpectedly low screen time?
- The student may be signed in with a personal account where the extension is not enforced.
- Activity occurred in an unmanaged secondary browser.
- Telemetry recorded offline will sync once the device reconnects to the network.
Does Screen Time record activity in multi-tab or split-screen browsers?
Screen Time tracks usage on active single-browser tabs. Screen Time reporting excludes background tabs, minimized windows, and inactive browser sessions.
